Super Mario World Yoshi.. why is he so indestructable?

So this is actually a very serious question. I was playing Super Mario World recently for the super nintendo and I realized.. that Yoshi is basically unstoppable. That is one thing that puzzles me. You know what the other one is? If he is so unstoppable, why is he so scared to join you in castles?

or maybe he can't survive without direct sunlight for very long?

Even tools have their limits

plus in a big castle like that..you can't hear a yoshi scream...take it as you will!

Maybe he hasnt discovered his true powers yet

Oh i'm sureee if the Yoshi wanted his/her/it's scream to be heard Mariooo wouldd hear it.
