Conker's Bad Fur Day I. First Look A game developed by Rareware for the Nintendo 64. The childish-looking graphics and 3d models may seemingly appeal more towards little children; however, you might want to think twice before playing this game. Starring an original Rareware character, Conker the Squirrel; a fury an vulgar, little creature, traverses in an adventure-atmospheric environment introducing many strange and hysterical adversaries in attempt to *conker the lands. Due to violence, graphic blood and gore, and foul use of language; without a doubt, conker is rated M for mature.
Now before we begin, this review will present 5 categories. This being:
Gameplay, Graphics, Audio Quality, and Storyline.II. Gameplay (3/5) The game features a simplistic single-button action controls and sparse amount of button combination. This makes everything loads easier. What do i mean by this? Well let show you the Control Schematics for the game.me
A: Jump
B: Function (A Universal button that corresponds to all the events in the game)
C-Buttons: Turn Camera
L: Skip Scene
R: "Conker View"
Z: Crouch
Stick: Move
Start: Accept/Pause
As you can see, controls lower gameplay. Not much puzzles are involved in this so called Platformer. Nothing of intense thinking is required at all! I mean cmon you've got a B button that will do everything for you! Give a guy beer, tips, smack a person with a pan, its endless! Worse of all, you have this big gigantic crater with the text B in it to notify when ever B is appropriate to use. This little chipmunk has more of his brains processing than yours!
III. Graphics 5/5 The graphics in the standards of the nintendo 64 are exquisite (medieval). Not saying the nintendo graphics are weak form the start or anything, sorry nintendo fan boys. 3d Mapping and texture bring out that fantasy-like feeling. When in doubt you feel safe, around every corner, your not. A mis-gnomer? Perhaps, but it affects the gameplay significantly. Blood and gore enhances this 3d platformer and takes it onto the next level.
IV. Audio Quality (4/5) Now the game may seem overly rant in the cutscenes, audio can make all the difference, or does it? Can get someone to check the scripts, please? As you notice, the audio and game music is quite clear; although, if you listen closely voices are somewhat repetitive. Yes, you know what i mean. Exactly like a 8-bit cellphone ringtone! All the bosses in each segment of the game have all the same voices, no doubt! If not, ALL bosses throughout the ENTIRE GAME! Yet, I cant seem to blame nintendo for my hatred over repetition of voices, can i? Though this is debatable the audio is clear and suits the game plot.
V. Storyline (5/5) Well, lets see. From the beginning: a drunk squirrel ventures forth to find his home and is tied up into this war and rebellion? What?
Seems confusing put every little piece of the plot fits in perfectly. Every event and every motion. The game may seem to just stuff itself with objectives and smuthers the player. Pointless at first, but once you play, you will see how perfectly the puzzle is put together. Hats down to Rareware on this category.
OVERALL: 4/5VI. Similar Games/SequelsXBOX - Conker: Live & Reloaded
GBC - Conker's Pocket Tales
Rareware, a company previously owned by nintendo was sold to microsoft. A sequel was in development until plans were canceled in 2002. Luckily an online petition re-established Rareware's project. Terms at the time were steep so the sequel was abandoned and a remake of the game for the XBOX was created by the name of CONKER: Live & Reloaded.
Please do not take this personal.
