| The time has come for yet another release in the Halo Saga, though this time it's a prequel! Set 20 years prior to the first ring event. While many may criticize it for being an RTS with clunky controls, but in the end what RTS on a console doesn't have control issues? I played the demo when it was released to the XBOX 360 community and I was awestruck by how well they pulled it off. Yes, the unit selection and grouping may be a bit lacking but who cares! it's a solid RTS with a great selection of units and a very good way to branch out those 360 tournaments that are stuck in FPS mode, which is understandable seeing as no company has really looked into this genre on this console. I will hold out on rating it till i can play the entire game, which i plan on doing over the next few days! Anyway! So i beat the game about 2 days after i got it, but i completely forgot to review it! :O Halo Wars is one of the better Real-Time Strategy games on a console. Now I know all of you RTS buffs out there are probably shouting about how the controls are clunky, and about how the unit selection is bad but you have to remember, it's on a console. There is no way they can emulate the CTRL+Click or the selection box effectively with a controller. That is something you simply need a keyboard and mouse for. I have to give props to bungie and Microsoft for doing the best with what they had, while it is flawed, it is still effective. But enough about the controls. As I said in my previous statement the game is set prior to the first ring event with the MC and the UNSC, you are thrown into battle as Sgt. Forge, a rough battle worn soldier ready to tear up some covenant forces. The first few missions are a bit tame in comparisson to the epic battles you experience in more conventional RTS out there, but then again with it being on a console you need the time to get used to the controls! The number of missions though was a bit lacking for being a part of the Halo universe. If i remember correctly there was 15 missions, and most of them were very easy, even on the harder difficulties. But then again there were a few that frustrated me to no end! There are also plenty of unlockables in the game, you have Black Boxes, which unlock information on the Halo timeline; you have skulls with allow you to make the game more difficult or easy(depending on the skull), and you also have secondary missions in most levels which yield bonus points and sometimes spawn skulls. As for the multiplayer I found it a bit bland, if you play as the UNSC all you have to do is mass flying units and tear up the enemy base, atleast that's what I came to end up doing most games. I never really played as the covenant though, but i'd assume that it would be the same way, just mass banshees and win XD. Overall it was a decent RTS on the console, and it opens up a new venue for console competition(which i will utilize at some point in my career ). All in all i'd give it a... 7.5/10

| online matchmaking kind of sucks, because you can't find any matches. seriously only like 10,000 people bought halo wars for 360, when you do find a match though it is quite fun.
I suggest more people buy halo wars so the game can be properly judged, at least on the multi-player scale...
all in all a good game imo

| It has a decent gameplay. But i have to agree with Blah-40000, the game matching features are terrible.
Similar to Warcraft 3 :/

| the missions are pretty tame for an RTS, but overall it's fun. They do get pretty annoying on the harder difficulties though :\ The one i'm waitin for is Starcraft 2 | |

Modded is a legitamate as any other console out there. A true statistic shows that 40% of your typical gamer has a modded xbox ;]

| hmm..from my understanding of the law the 360 is the users, but the software/firmware/hardware rights still belong to microsoft therefore modifying it to lessen security is illegal, atleast in the US.
BUT i'm no lawyer, nor do i really want to be..i just don't want to incur the wrath of microsoft
